I have a Deutsch test on Wednesday about a book: Sansibar oder der Letzte Grund. In English it's called "Flight to Afar." I know nobody cares, but if anyone wants to chat a little about WHY KNUDSEN BRINGS THE FRIGGIN' KLOSTERSCHÜLER TO SWEDEN, I'd appreciate it.
I liked the book. It was slow, but I thought all the characters were really interesting, even though I kept hoping it would turn into more of a novel novel with a more solid, satisfying plot. I'm really scared of the Deutscharbeit -- I have no idea what I'm going to write about! I don't understand the character Knudsen's motives at all!
In my German class, I often feel very dumb.

I had to analyze a poem from Goethe. It was painful.
Now we're reading Emilia Galotti, which I am somehow to suppose to relate to the DDR.
I can't even get more than 3 pages in.
Hallo Zoe,
ich weiss nicht ob du dich an mich erinnerst. I am Eva McVicar, "loose" friend of your parents, I think we were once together in summer at Rangepond. My kids are Adela (7th grade) and Daniel (5grade). Adela was for years with Isaac in acting classes. I am Czech and have a degree in German language and literature. I am teaching German now here in Maine at the Merriconeagr Waldorf Highschool.
I am following your journey through your dad's facebook and am very impressed. What a courageous teenager you are! Ich halte dir die Daumen! I am sorry I can't help you with this assignment, I didn't read that book. I could help more Katie who is supposed to write about Emilia Galotti. But if you ever want some help with German language, literature, or culture , please write me, I am checking the Facebook daily, just look me up: Eva McVicar.
Viel Spass und viel Erfolg und kein Stress!
eva
