Why are you wearing that stupid bunny suit?

Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?

I resisted seeing Donnie Darko for so, so long, mostly because it's so big at CBHS. When Isaac tried to force me to watch it on Christmas Eve, I felt like I was conforming more with each passing minute. Yesterday, I finally gave in, and Isaac was right -- I did love it. I love Donnie Darko! It made me wish I still had an open grave in my backyard (or in my basement, for that matter.) I really want to watch it for the third time, but I don't think I'm going to.

Validus students!

18 kids from a school in the Bronx, Validus, visited our school this week. We had an awesome time! The students we hosted, Madeleine and Tatiana, were fabulous. I think all of the Validus students had fun, although it was very different from when we visited them -- we met up with them every day, for Flatbread pizza, bowling, "college night," and Rock Band.

On Wednesday, a few people came over to play Rock Band. Here's Ezra on drums, Kai on bass, me singing, and, although he's not in the picture, Carlos on guitar. Kayla and Tatiana are watching.

Madeleine and me.

Tatiana and me.
What else have I been doing lately? I've been reading The Yiddish Policemen's Union, which I'm enjoying so far, playing the uke (sort of,) listening to Jens Lekman and Rufus Wainwright, knitting like a crazy person, and watching too much TV. I'm glad I have a long weekend.

Ms. Bus Driver pushes me over the edge

This afternoon, after a pretty stressful day (among other things, I found out I'm probably failing humanities) I ran to my school bus about 30 seconds late. I started to wave to the driver (she had just started the engine and was starting to pull away.)

Ms. Bus Driver (rolling down the window): HEY!! WHY ARE YOU WAVING TO ME??

Me: I need to get on your bus!

Ms. Bus Driver continues to pull away.

Me: Please stop! Please!

Ms. Bus Driver (sighing dramatically and opening the door): WHAT THE HECK WERE YOU THINKING? When I say I'm leaving, I MEAN I'm leaving! I can't stop for one person, THIS IS MY DAMN JOB!! I haven't forgotten you. I dealt with you on the Portland bus!!

Hmmm. Let's think about this for a minute. Not only is my bus driver mean, crazy, and emotionally disturbed, but she also hasn't really had to "deal" with me. I am a good, quiet, and boring bus rider, and the only time she's yelled at me personally was when I tried to take a nice Thai exchange student onto her bus. That is, in my opinion, not much of an offense.

Crew, crew

On Friday, during crew (which is, basically, homeroom) Mr. Murray made us watch this lovely film about, um, UFOs. He bought it for a dollar at Wal-Mart, and on the cover it proudly states, "Winner of the E.B.E. Award for Best UFO Documentary." Enough said.

Golden Compass Hat

I want so, so much to knit this hat! Although I didn't see the movie, I heard it had some fabulous knitted garments in it. I think this hat is absolutely adorable -- I am going to make it after I a) make some money and b) figure out what the heck "three needle bind-off" is.

All vegans eat is...

This definitely falls into the "all vegans eat" category. You know, all vegans eat is kale soup! All vegans eat are beans and wheat gluten! But still...

I LOVE hemp milk! It is definitely my new favorite milk substitute. It tastes creamy and slightly grainy, but it has a thicker, more appealing texture than nut milks. Although I appreciate almond milk from time to time, I like my tea to turn a nice, light color when I add "milk" to it. Hemp milk is worth every extra cent.
